The MaKe House has been developed in an alley in Palermo, which is the most creative and recreational neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires. A neighborhood full of bars, restaurants and design stores, with a strong influence of graffiti art.
A particular program of a client with the spirit of sharing his passion for classic cars combined with the ambition of generating an art gallery and, at the same time, with the aim of living there and having a space to contemplate and connect with nature.
Bearing in mind the premises of its location and the program of the client’ needs, we designed a house that takes, as a starting point, the idea of being integrated, but at the same time, being able to separate public from private space.
One of the main characteristics of the project was the creation of a continuous space, which at the same time, is divided in a very subtle way throughout a patio that enables the division between the most public and the most private area.
In the space different levels and heights appear. Floating platforms are attached, each one embracing a different stay of the project –garage-gallery, kitchen-dining room, living room and bedrooms–. Even though they are open spaces, it is noticeable the way in which the placement of every single platform in the section has been carefully studied so that the privacy of each stay is preserved and so that all of them have good natural light thanks to the light of the garden and the patio.
An imposing opening, which opens completely towards the garden, was generated. Thanks to it, most of the inner space is illuminated with a soft and faint light.
The noble materials used, such as concrete, bricks and steel, are complementary with the house and provide warmth to spaces as well.
